Boston Red Sox
Date of birth: March 8, 1954 in The Hague, Netherlands
Location: Possibly posed, possibly on the mound.
First Impression; I didnt like the card for several reason, his face is darkened so you cannot really see what he looks like, does he have a mustache? I thought his glove looked gigantic. A lot of the Red Sox cards almost have a Colorforms quality to them where they look like they are just pasted on a mock background. I was puzzled by the name, to be sure.
Career stats: Not much to say about a man named Win. Fantastic name for a pitcher.
He was the first European-trained major leaguer. He was Dutch and from the Netherlands. Though he had a 1981 card, he only got into 22 games and pitched 55.2 innings in his career to that point and never pitched beyond 1980. Bert Blyleven was the first Dutch born player to reach the majors but he grew up in California.
All time stat: Though he had a brief career, his record was 3-1
Fun fact: According to SABR, Remmerswaal made his major-league debut on August 3 at Milwaukee’s County Stadium – but apparently he wasn’t bothered by nerves. Steve Renko left the game after five innings, and as author Tom Boswell described it, “Zimmer called the bullpen, barked ‘Get Win up,’ and was told, ‘He’s out in the bleachers buying peanuts.’”
