First Impression; For a bunting card, this is a good bunt. He appears to know what his is doing.
Career stats: Like many of the players in this set Pete later became manager so there are two roads in his career. As a player he played 9 years and hit .226 with 30 homers and 141 RBI. He had a Reggie Jackson season as a career. He spent portions of seasons at AAA even in his last season.
All time stat: He was a three time interim manager. Once with Pittsburgh, once with the Reds (replaced by Dusty Baker) and in 2015 Ryne Sandberg stepped down as manager of the Phillies. Mackanin was named interim the remainder of the year and the “tag” was removed and he managed the Phillies in 2016 before he was fired in 2017. His managerial record was 227-291.
Fun fact: His 2006 Topps card, as a manager for the Pirates, was originally issued with Lloyd McClendon’s photo. They later issued a corrected card.
Ever a Future Star? He was a “Rookie Shortstop” in 1974 with Manny Trillo.
