Jerry Royster #268

Atlanta Braves.

Date of birth: October 18, 1952 Sacramento, CA

High School:   Sacramento HS (Sacramento, CA)

First Impression; You had me at flip up sunglasses.

Career stats player: Royster would play 16 seasons in the MLB. The overwhelming majority of the time he was with the Braves. He played all infield positions other than first. He only hit 40 HR in his career and batted .249, but his OBP for his career was .315 so he knew how to get on base. His best season was probably 1982 when he hit .295 in 261 at bats.

All Time Stat: Royster hit his only career grand slam on June 211985 as a member of the San Diego Padres against the San Francisco Giants. It came in the 8th inning off Greg Minton.*

Career stats manager: 53-94. Jerry was on Dave Lopes staff in 2002 with the Brewers. They handed the mess to Royster who was unable to make lemonade out of bad ballplayers. Which understandable. He had enough of attempting to manage in the majors and became the first non-Korean born manager in Korea’s MLB.

Fun Fact: He was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with Lee LacyTom Paciorek and Jim Wynn to the Atlanta Braves for Dusty Baker and Ed Goodson. Lets see how this trade involving two future managers came out for both teams. For LA they got Baker, and he was a very solid player for the Braves, and played alongside Hank Aaron. He played 1117 games for LA hit 144 HR and batted .281 (also winning a ring). Ed Goodson, a fathers day favorite, played 2 seasons for LA in a backup role. The Braves got Lacy (50g), Paciorek (188g), Wynn (148g) and Royster 1118g. Though they got one long term player out of the deal the Dodgers won that hands down.

Ever a Future Star?  He was a 1976 Topps Rookie Infielder with Willie Randolph, Dave McKay and Roy Staiger.

Rookie or final card? No, and he would have one manager card for his interim year.

Hall of Fame? Number retired? N/A
