Boston Red Sox.
Date of birth: July 7, 1958 in Orange, CA
High School: Savanna HS (Anaheim, CA)
Nickname: Hoff. Which is why David Hasselhoff would later need to go as “The Hoff” so that people would not confuse them.
First Impression; Not much to say, he’s waiting to get into the cage. Looks like he sat on his hat.
Career stats player: Glenn was born with an extra N. His rookie year was 1980 thus, spoiler alert, this is his Rookie card. The first 678 games of his career would be in Boston. Then he would get in less than 50 games in his last two seasons at the end of the 80s when he returned home and played for the Dodgers and Angels. His year with the most playing time was 1982 and he hit .209, the next year 51 points higher and then he would not play in 100 games in a season the remainder of his career. He was a .242 career hitter with 23 HR and 210 RBI.
All Time Stat: This one is interesting, it makes sense, hit a homer and win, but he had 23 HR in his career, 19 of them came in a game his team won. Only 4 came in losses. 1981 extra inning loss at Oakland (off Jeff Jones), 1983 the Tigers won 11-6 in Boston (off Juan Berenguer), 1985 loss at Texas (off Frank Tanana) and lastly in 1989 for his final homer, another loss in Oakland (off Curt Young).
Career stats manager: 47-41. Hoffman took over in 1998 when Bill Russell was fired, finishing the season 47-41. This was an interim only gig, the next manager was Davey Johnson in 1999. Hoffman served as third base coach for the Dodgers until 2005. He then manned the 3rd base box in San Diego from 2006-2020.
Fun Fact: His brother is Trevor Hoffman, Hall of Fame closer. Combined they have 528 (Trevor had 4) hits as brothers, and 601 saves (Glenn had none). Glenn had 106 doubles in 2383 at bats. Somehow Trevor had 2 doubles in 33 career at bats.
Ever a Future Star? No
Rookie or final card? Rookie, he had been drafted by Boston in 1976 so they either had better prospects or Hoffman was not considered one so he never had any Prospect/Future Star cards.
Hall of Fame? Number retired? N/A
