Garth Iorg #444

Toronto Blue Jays

First Impression; Looks like Garth was just told he might be in the lineup, and that they cannot find his dog.

Location: Pregame Portrait.

Date of birth: October 12, 1954

Career stats: Party on, that is what I would come to think about this card during my youth. Garth spent his entire career with the Blue Jays. He was a fairly regular starter from 1982-1987. His best year was a good year for his club the 1985 Jays, he hit .313 with 7 homers. His career average was .258 with 20 homers in 931 games played.

All Time Stat: Just like his brother a pinch hit stat; In his final major league plate appearance, Iorg made Toronto’s last out of the 1987 season, when a win would have tied the Blue Jays with the Detroit Tigers for the American League East title, forcing a one-game playoff. At the time of his retirement, Iorg was the Blue Jays’s career leader in pinch hits.

Fun Fact: He had one of the strangest batting stances in MLB history.

Garth stood extremely open — almost facing the pitcher — with his hands low and the bat angled oddly. Broadcasters loved talking about it because nobody else looked like him at the plate.
