Don Money #106

Milwaukee Brewers

Date of birth: June 7, 1947 in Washington DC

High School: La Plata High School

Nickname:  Brooks; He was called “Brooks” because his defense at third base was so good that teammates and observers compared him directly to Brooks Robinson, the greatest defensive third baseman in MLB history.  Nicknames weren’t always that great back then.

First Impression; Looks like he is wearing pajamas.

Career stats: 4 time All Star (first All-Star starter in Brewers franchise history) was once traded to clear the way for Mike Schmidt to play third in Philadelphia.  In a 16-season career, Money hit .261 with 176 home runs and 729 RBIs in 1,720 games.

All Time Stat: for the Brewers in the top 10 in games played, at bats, runs, and hits.

Fun Fact: On April 10, 1976, Money hit a walk-off grand slam off Dave Pagan of the New York Yankees, only to see it taken back because the first base umpire had called time before the pitch was delivered. According to most accounts, the time out was only granted after the home run, when Yankees manager Billy Martin appealed to the umpire that he had discreetly asked for time out.

Ever a Future Star? He was a “Rookie Star” in 1969

Rookie or final card? No.

Hall of Fame? Number retired? N/A
