First Impression; This is a pretty bland “pose for me” card.
Career stats player: Dave broke into the bigs in 1969 with the Padres, those were the first Padres. They eased him into the rotation with him starting over 20 games in his career every year but until 1979. From 1979 to 1981 he only had 12 starts total. He had 14 complete games in 1971 with 14 wins.
His best year would come with Houston in 1973 when he was 17-11. Houston traded Roberts in 1975 to the Tigers with Jim Crawford and Milt May for Terry Humphrey, Mark Lemongello, Gene Pentz and Leon Roberts (no relation).
All Time Stat: He completed 77 of his 277 starts and had a career record of 103-125. He threw 20 shutouts. From 1969 to 1981, in the regular season, for players with more than 20 shutouts, he had the 3rd lowest win total with Claude Osteen (102) and Mel Stottlemyre (87) the only two worse.
Fun Fact: In all he would pitch for 6 franchises and won the 1979 World Series with the Pirates. He would wear 8 different numbers.
