Chicago White Sox
Date of birth: June 29, 1951 Cedar Rapids, IA
High School: Norway High School Norway, IA
First Impression; Blame 8 year old me, but I always thought that the angle of the photo made him look like a little person. I think that because he has the jersey untucked, it gives the illusion of a longer torso. Anyway in 1981 or 20whatever, its just an observation.
Career stats player: Bruce didn’t really catch on, he played sparingly with the Tigers in ’76-77. He then had a Cub of coffee with the Cubs in 1979 and then in 1980 he saw his most, and unfortunately final action in the majors with the White Sox. Over his career of 186 games he had 1 homer and 26 RBI and a .237 average.
All Time Stat: Another one homer guy. Bruce’s came on August 17, 1976, his 46th career game. He was with the Tigers his rookie season and helped the Tigers win as Kimm broke a deadlock in the 8th inning to get the win for Detroit and starter Mark Fidrych.
Career stats manager: 33-45. The Cubs “interimed” him in 2002 and his record was as even as his predecessor. So here’s a guy managing in AAA, the major league manager gets fired because the team stinks, and you arent a magician and cannot make players better just upon your presence, and as a consequnce you lose your job. They dont even send you back to AAA. Anyway, he didnt have to move his stuff, he was hired by the White Sox to by third base coach in 2003. And finally, he was on the 1997 Marlins staff, so he has a ring. I thought he was going to have to trade his extra M to get one. Not so.
Fun Fact: He both replaced and was replaced by two managers in this list. After Baylor was fired Kimm was brought up from AAA and he only lasted the remainder of that year, 2002. Dusty Baker was hired to manage the Cubs in 2003.
Ever a Future Star? No
