First Impression; What an action card. Really great card.
Career stats player: Boone was one of those players that didn’t really get the kudos he deserved, probably because he played with Bowa, Rose, Morgan, Schmidt, et al. There is only so much ink to go around. But Boone was a 4 time All-Star, won the 1980 World Series, and a 7 time gold glove winner. He didnt hit a ton but was in the mid 280s during ’77-’79. He walked more than he struck out, 663 to 608. Most of his offensive numbers as a catcher for Philadelphia were eclipsed by Mike Lieberthal but he wasnt the catcher Boone was.
All Time Stat: He is 5th all time in games caught. 2264 games, that is a lot of squatting.
Career stats manager: 371-444. Boone returned to the Royals in 1995 as the team’s manager but was let go during the 1997 season after a third straight sub-.500 season. In 2001, he was hired to be the skipper of the Cincinnati Reds, replacing Jack McKeon. However, after another two and a half sub-.500 seasons, the Reds replaced Boone with Ray Knight, on July 28, 2003.*
Fun Fact: In 1990, just after Boone retired as a player, a group trying to bring an MLB franchise to Orlando (called the Orlando SunRays) hired him to be its first manager.[6] The job was contingent on Orlando being awarded a National League franchise to begin play in 1993; the NL instead chose Miami and Denver.*
