Biff Pocoroba #326

Atlanta Braves.

Date of birth:  July 25, 1953 Burbank, CA

Date of death: May 24, 2020

High School: Canoga Park HS (Canoga Park, CA)

Nickname: Biff. Oh no way, back to the Future, his real name is BIFF. The name means to hit, strike or punch, ALA Batman ’66.

POCOROBA: The pronunciation of his name is POKE-O-ROW-BUH. It’s not a common name, so likely altered or added to at some point.

First Impression; I always loved this guys name, and he became more popular in the card community after the BTTF movies came out and there was a pop culture Biff in our midst.

Career stats player: Biff was a career Brave. 596 games and 374 hits with a .257 average and 21 HR. He was an All-Star in 1978. His best season was the year prior when he hit .290 in 113 games which was his most played in a single season for his career. It was not necessarily a lack of production that drove him out of the lineup as much as injuries which led to lower playing time.

All Time Stat: In the All-Star game he was a late replacement and caught the last out of the game with teammate Phil Niekro on the mound.

Fun Fact: His name is Biff Benedict Pocoroba. He lost his starting catcher spot to Bruce Benedict.

Ever a Future Star?  No

Rookie or final card? No

Hall of Fame? Number retired? After retirement he would become “Sausage King of Georgia”.
